PTE

The Pearson Test of English (PTE Core) is a modern, fully computer-based English language proficiency test designed to evaluate your ability to use English in real-life situations. It assesses all four key language skills — Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening — in one seamless test session, making it a trusted option for candidates planning to work, live, or migrate abroad. PTE Core focuses on practical English rather than purely academic language, and it is widely accepted for immigration pathways such as Canada PR by the Canadian government.

Types of PTE Tests

There are three main types of PTE exams:

1. PTE Academic

PTE Academic is designed for students applying for undergraduate or postgraduate studies abroad. It is accepted by thousands of universities and colleges in countries such as the UK, Canada, Australia, the USA, and New Zealand. It assesses academic-level English skills required for higher education.

2. PTE Core

PTE Core is mainly designed for immigration and work visa purposes, especially for Canada PR and other migration pathways. It focuses on practical, everyday English communication skills rather than purely academic language.

3. PTE Academic UKVI

PTE Academic UKVI is approved by the UK Home Office for UK visa applications. It is similar in format to PTE Academic but specifically meets UK visa and immigration requirements.

Test Format

PTE is completed on a computer and typically lasts around 2 hours. It is divided into three main parts:

  • Speaking & Writing
  • Reading
  • Listening

The test includes tasks such as reading aloud, describing images, summarizing text, essay writing, fill-in-the-blanks, and listening-based questions.

Scoring System

PTE uses a score range from 10 to 90. Each skill receives an individual score, and an overall score is calculated based on performance across all modules. Results are usually available within 48 hours to a few days.

At Band Booster, our PTE preparation programs follow official Pearson guidelines, helping students understand test structure, improve weak areas, and confidently achieve their required score for study or immigration purposes.

Test Format and Structure

PTE Core is completed on a computer and typically lasts about two hours. The test is divided into three main parts:

  • Speaking & Writing: Combines speaking tasks (like read aloud and describing images) with writing tasks (such as summarizing and email writing).
  • Reading: Assesses understanding of written English through multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and re-ordering tasks.
  • Listening: Evaluates comprehension of spoken English using audio and video clips, which you hear once during the test.

Types and Modules

Even though all four skills appear in the test, the structure groups them into the three parts listed above. PTE Core includes a variety of question types that reflect how English is used in everyday communication and practical situations.

Scoring and Evaluation

PTE Core uses a scale from 10 to 90 points to report scores across the four language skills. The scoring process is automated and powered by advanced AI technology, offering fast and unbiased results. You receive both individual skill scores and an overall score, which help universities or immigration authorities assess your English proficiency level.

Why Choose PTE

Learners often choose PTE Core because it offers a fast, fair, and flexible testing experience. The test results are typically available within a few days, and the computer-based format is designed to reduce test anxiety by eliminating examiner bias. While PTE Core is ideal for migration and work visa requirements, PTE Academic (a separate version) is used specifically for higher education admissions.

At Band Booster, our PTE preparation programs align with the official PTE structure and scoring criteria to help you achieve your target score confidently and efficiently.
